More Natural and New Innovations
We wanted to construct our home and way of living in a more natural method and looked at new innovations. We decided to build our house with earth blocks. Using solar for power, borehole for water, composting, recycling and grey water systems. Farming which is key for our way of living. We planted a few hundred trees on our other land which is within walking distance. Milina trees and Moringa trees know as the miracle tree, here we keep bee hives. The bees pollinate from these trees giving the honey high value content. I have an interest in health, medicinal herbal trees and plants. This has become a self sustainable income for us and the local community.
I have always had a keen interest with local community while living in London so it was a natural path for me to be part of the local community here. We set up the Marcus Garvey People Foundation in 2009. A charity working with the local community offering youth skills, training in eco building, farming and solar and motivation workshops. Maria enjoys cooking and experimenting using fresh local produce and has learnt how to make halloumi cheese. These skills are passed onto our staff. We share our knowledge and experience with our guest; sharing ideas which inspire and develops the future here. You may like to volunteer to help in the workshops; a whole new experience awaits you.
